Predictions for Khachanov vs. Ruud

Casper Ruud has not appeared to be a player with only one hardcourt title to his name. The World No. 7 won his solitary hardcourt event last year in San Diego, with his other eight victories coming on clay, the surface that helped him reach the Top-10.
The clay-court specialist received his training at Rafael Nadal’s tennis academy and is expected to win numerous titles on the muddy, slower surface. At Flushing Meadows, however, Ruud has demonstrated maturity and adaptability much beyond his years, masterfully managing the fast-paced surface.
Ruud entered the tournament after reaching the semifinals of the Canadian Open, a main US Open preparatory event. He is 14-4 on hardcourt this season and has converted on 41% of break-point opportunities. The Norwegian must be as clinical as possible when faced with opportunities against Khachanov’s constantly ferocious serve.
Ruud dropped just one set in his first two matches before facing American Tommy Paul in the third round, which went the distance in a five-set thriller.
The Norwegian backed that up with a four-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet and a straight-set quarterfinal win over world No. 14 Matteo Berrettini. Ruud’s triumph over Berrettini was his most convincing and stunning victory to date.
He handled Berrettini’s massive serve with ease, which speaks well for what’s to come. Khachanov possesses a tremendous serve that will push Ruud to stay poised and patient, with the emphasis firmly on being opportunistic. When at his best, the Russian won 77% of his first-serve points against Nick Kyrgios in the quarterfinals and serves as well as most players on tour.
Khachanov’s towering 6-foot-6 size allows him to cover the court well. He does, however, rely heavily on his serve and will not want to get drawn into long rallies with the more nimble, quick, and fit Norwegian.

Ruud moneyline prediction
If Ruud wants to advance on the hardcourt, he’ll have to demonstrate that he can survive tests like this, against lower-ranked but surprisingly dangerous opponents.
Khachanov hasn’t won a title since 2018, but 10 of his 11 titles have come on hardcourt, demonstrating how dangerous he is on the surface. Khachanov, the underdog in his previous three matches, has recently demonstrated an unquenchable capacity to beat the odds.
Ruud, on the other hand, should exploit his better athleticism, quickness, and precision accuracy to defeat Khachanov. Furthermore, Khachanov’s previous two matches were arduous five-setters, which could wear on the imposing Russian if the match goes beyond the fourth set and beyond.
Khachanov is now playing his greatest tennis of his career. He has only been broken four times in the last two matches and has an outstanding serve that can keep him in any battle. If he continues to serve at his current level at the US Open, this semifinal will last at least four sets.
Despite his lack of reputation as an elite hardcourt player, Ruud is poised to make his mark on the hardcourt Grand Slam stage. The ferocious-hitting Khachanov provides the ideal framework for Ruud to break through and reach his second Grand Slam final, but his first on hardcourt.
His lack of success on the surface won’t stand the test of time, since Ruud has no glaring faults and should employ his well-roundedness to conquer the surprise Russian.
